The Lacquer Craft Hall is the first public Lacquer Exhibition Hall. The development of the lacquer in Taiwan could trace back to Japanese Occupation. There were two forestry centers in Daxueshan and Baxianshan offered all necessary materials for the lacquer crafts. And the Japanese cultivated the lacquer industries in a planned way in Middle Taiwan and achieved many lacquering talents. The topographical advantages and the support of the people made the vigorous development of the lacquer industry in Taichung County .
Around the 50 th year in R.O.C. Calendar, ¡§Milepaheluo Factory¡¨ was established in Fengyuan, the capital is put up by American people and the facilities and technology are provided by Japanese. This factory only produced the salad bowl of wooden furniture and lacquerware. Later some lacquer workers set up stops outside by themselves. Till the age of sixty to seventy, the lacquer shops has been more than forty. At this time, it was also the golden age of the lacquerwares to export to Japan . Most of the lacquerwares are exported from Fengyuan; as a result, Fengyuan has become the important township of the lacquer crafts in Taiwan .
Today, the lacquerware industries have been moved gradually to the Third World where the labors are highly concentrated. The grand occasion of the lacquer crafts in Fengyuan is no longer existed; as a result , the establishment of this lacquer craft Hall represents the creation and rebirth of the
lacquer crafts. The Museum of the Lacquer Crafts is located at Zhongzheng Park . The first floor is the exhibition ground and the operating workshop, the exhibited contents include the history of the lacquerwares and the works of famous masters.
