Brief Description

Appearance ĄG The head is gray and the body is light brown. There is a wide, black spot with half-circle of white dots from the bottom of the rear neck to both sides of neck. The tail is longer than the tail of Sphenurus formosae .

Habitual Behavior ĄG They often stay at the electric wire and the tip of the three, or walk and forage on the ground. They will walk and peck when they are searching for the food. When they meet with the alarm, they will fly up rapidly, loudly and vertically and fly far away the danger in an instant at the very close approach and stay at the higher branch or electric wire. When they are flying , the uropygial will expand as the fan. They can fly rapidly but can't last long. They have special neck-muscle. They drink water just like the horses do, lower the head and drink directly. The main food are cereals and seeds. In breeding season, they will eat malaco-animals and insects to replenished the protein. They built the pan-like nest with thin twigs on the branch of the tree. They usually lay two eggs once.

Distribution ĄG From South Asia to Malay Archipelagoes; the ground and the mountain areas below the height of 1000m in Taiwan.
