Introduction |
At the end
of October of 2001, the first term of ¡§Shihgangya
Cultural Festival¡¨ was mutually hold with
¡§Memory of Shihgang Bicycle Riding¡¨ activity
organized by Transportation Travel Bureau
and bicycles became the important role throughout
whole activity.The content of Cultural Festival
planned by Culture Center of Taichung County
demonstrated manpower tow cart, grain removal
wheel, rice branket, carrying pole, retrospect
bicycle such instruments and alternate with
the performances of street artistics that
reappear the deep old time country feel.
Following the star turn opened at 4th of
November, despite the ¡§Historical Tracing,
Walking Shihgang¡¨, ¡§Old Time Vehicle Tool
in Shihgang Countryside¡¨, ¡§Persimmon Luck
Exhibition¡¨, there were alsomany dynamic
programes.
First, there was a carrying pole with two
rice brankets that was a tool for famers
carrying produces in fourth and fifty years
ago and therefore everyone got strong feet
for carrying heavy articles. While ¡§Bicycle¡¨
and rice branket was another combination,
which has a strong body that is unusual
in modern world with old fasion style. On
the back seat, there was a special made
rack with rice brankets on both sides, which
not only released farmers¡¦ painstaking but
also increased shipping efficiency. Only
they needed certain level of balance feeling
and skill to handle rough road situaion.
In 1960s, the manpower tow cart was developed
and appeared everywhere on the country roads
that announced the time of industrialization
had come.

We selected
¡§Shihgang Old Barn¡¨ as the place for a serial
of activities in consective eight days of.
At the first day: there were art and drawing
of children, rock jewelry exhibitions and
barn fence painting activity. The drawing
exhibition was organized by ¡§Shihgang Sinse
921 Community Caring Station¡¨ of an Elder
Protestent Church, the artworks were total
in 60 that all provided by children from
houses being fully tumbled down, half tumbled
down and disadvatage minorities. They used
color pens to draw living, full of imaginary
and vitality painting one after one. While
the barn painting was the most important
play. The Cultural Development Association
of Shihgang communities invited local children
to paint together to beautify their home
and allow the old barn in 1930s reappearing
his lease of life. This not only find a
new life for idle space but also arouse
theold day memory of residences to old barn.
