Tachia
River is originated from Snow Mountain of
Central Mountain (altitude 3884m) and Nanhu
Big Mountain (altitude 3740m), the length
is around 140 kilometers. Shihgang Dam locates
in lowest downstream of Tachia River and
the left side of the road from Dungshih
to Fengyuan. The lenghth of this dam is
around 700 meters, which was fully built
in domestic from design to construction
in 1974. The effective catchment after 921
earthquake is 800 hundreds cubic meters
that daily supply of local necessaries and
industrial water in Greater Taichung Area
is around 1.4 million tons, which totally
develop the economic benefit of water resources
of Tachia River. Current damage part of
dam is reserved as memorial scenary of national
earthquake disaster and established test
route of fish stairs behind No. 16 dam-breaching
flood routing to keep the fish ecology of
Tachia River. The sourrounded natural scenaries
are also completely preserved and rich forests.
You can easily spot egret and blue francolin
such precious birds, which is best observation
spot for birdwatch.

Bus: get on
Fengyuan bus heading to Dungshih or Choulang
from Fengyuan and get off at the Shihgang
stop.Drive: take high way connected to national
highway 4 in Dungshih direction for about
6 kilometers and you can find the road sign
of Shihgang Dam on the left side. It is
about 10 kilometers from Fengyuan bus station
to here.
