The
predecendor of Dungfeng Green Corridor was
“Dungfeng Railroad”, which was also called
Dungshih Spur that constructed at March
14, 1958 and finished construction for traffic
service at January 12, 1960. At that time,
the annual productivity of Red Juniper,
Japan Cypress and China Fir of Great Snow
Mountian Forestry Center was 75 thousand
tons, plus there were 1.11 million tons
of building material needed to be transported
for constructing Shihgang Dam and also over
100 thousand tons of local agriculture produces,
so the Dungfeng railroad came up with the
tide of fashion.
Dungfeng Railroad was once called the most
beautiful spur of Taiwan. Since it goes
along with Tachia River Bank, no matter
the topography, style or types of collected
villiages and alternate railroad and water
channel are all unique scenery. There are
more diversified tourism resources nearby,
including Shihgang Dam, “Five blessing”
the Divine Tree, Kitchens Villages specific
in Hakka culture and ruins of 921 earthquake
all representing the characteristics of
Shihgang area. In Augest 31of 1991, the
final scheduled train of Dungfeng Railroad
drove off, thereby the picture of train
across Tachia River could only be a memory
from since. Taichung County Government rearranged
it to be the first bicycle route reconstructing
from abandoned railroad in 1999 and named
it “Green Corridor”. Unfortunately, 921
earthquake occurred right before the construction
finish. After two years of reconstruction,
finally it was completed at October 2001
and coincidently cooperated with the opening
of “Shihgang Cultural Festival”. The views
along with Green Corridor are bright and
beautiful. County Governemnt not only established
the bicycle route, but also conducted the
green and beautify construction to expect
for creating another “Green” Tachia River,
which make the entire Green Corridor more
flourishing by combining the shuttle of
joint bicycles and bicycles. shuttling
