 His grandfarther is from Wuju who taught him boxing for defending, while his father taught him ¡§Four Books and Five Scripture¡¨ and medical common sense. In the year of age 22, he took a boat to Taiwan and came to the most prosperous Anli Ethnic group in middle Taiwan (Dase Villiage Shihgang Township in nowaday). He dealt with Pingpu Tribe people for small transactions. Since he was honest, Chief Amo appreciated him very much. Later, there was an epidemic occurrence and transmission rapidly that residences were very painful. He then gathered medical herbsinfect at that place and cured many people. Other ethnic groups asked him to treat were all safely healed and saved many lives. He got along with people of Anli Ethnic group and settled down. Pingpu Tribe people respect him a lot and Chief marry him with his daugter. At that time, Ta-ching Chang saw Taichung area was still a big plane field and wildness. He thought if that place could be developed, it would generate great benefit in the future. He first persuaded Chief to comfort the people of community that frequently had conflicts with Chinese to decrease the events of killing or hurting Chinese. Following, he started excavating the conduit for irrigation and cut down the forest and weeds to cultivate the waste land. Shortly, partial aborigines united raising a disturbance and killed many Chinese. Ta-ching Chang and governmental official Tung-chi Pan led tribe people of Anli Ethnic group to suppress the disturbance with officers and men. Ta-ching Chang and Tung-chi Pan was honored by seeing Yung-cheng Emperor and were given Emperor¡¦s clothing and many treasures. The exploring job needed many workers. He returned hometown in Canton and invited young men from same villiage to go Taiwan together. He invested 9,300 liang money to aske workers excavating water channel. The range of cultivation included Shihgang Township, Daya Township and west side of Fengyuan. Later Da-ching Chang and other five people mutually invested the money to excavate Calabash Mound water channel that induced water from Tachia Rvier to irrigate the north-west of Taichung great basin, including Fengyuan, Tanzi, Shihgang and Daya. They made a contract with Pingpu tribe to exchange the water and land. Anli Ethnic group gave out part of land to exchange the water exploring by Chinese. By the sufficient water, a bumper crop of rice received year after year and Ta-ching Chang became a local richman very shortly. They attracted more immigrants by their aggressively cultivation.

Contribution

In order to eliminate the conflict between Taiwanese and Hakkaese, Ta-ching Chang encouraged Hakka people to cultivate in Shihgang and Soil Cow area. Based on the early development in Fengyuan area, the development of Shihgang could be promoted. Because the contribution of Ta-ching Chang to Taichung basin were really big. Many of his desendents stayed in Taiwan. Among them, the first wife lived in the golden star side of Shihgang, Wengzi neighborhood and Wengse neighborhood.
