His
grandfarther is from Wuju who taught
him boxing for defending, while his
father taught him ¡§Four Books and
Five Scripture¡¨ and medical common
sense. In the year of age 22, he took
a boat to Taiwan and came to the most
prosperous Anli Ethnic group in middle
Taiwan (Dase Villiage Shihgang Township
in nowaday). He dealt with Pingpu
Tribe people for small transactions.
Since he was honest, Chief Amo appreciated
him very much. Later, there was an
epidemic occurrence and transmission
rapidly that residences were very
painful. He then gathered medical
herbsinfect at that place and cured
many people. Other ethnic groups asked
him to treat were all safely healed

Ta-ching Chang saw Taichung area was
still a big plane field and wildness.
He thought if that place could be
developed, it would generate great
benefit in the future. He first persuaded
Chief to comfort the people of community
that frequently had conflicts with
Chinese to decrease the events of
killing or hurting Chinese. Following,
he started excavating the conduit
for irrigation and cut down the forest
and weeds to cultivate the waste land.
Shortly, partial aborigines united
raising a disturbance and killed many
Chinese. Ta-ching Chang and governmental
official Tung-chi Pan led tribe people
of Anli Ethnic group to suppress the
disturbance with officers and men.
Ta-ching Chang and Tung-chi Pan was
honored by seeing Yung-cheng Emperor
and were given Emperor¡¦s clothing
and many treasures. The exploring
job needed many workers. He returned
hometown in Canton and invited young
men from same villiage to go Taiwan

money to aske workers excavating water
channel. The range of cultivation
included Shihgang Township, Daya Township
and west side of Fengyuan. Later Da-ching
Chang and other five people mutually
invested the money to excavate Calabash
Mound water channel that induced water
from Tachia Rvier to irrigate the
north-west of Taichung great basin,
including Fengyuan, Tanzi, Shihgang
and Daya. They made a contract with
Pingpu tribe to exchange the water
and land. Anli Ethnic group gave out
part of land to exchange the water
exploring by Chinese. By the sufficient
water, a bumper crop of rice received
year after year and Ta-ching Chang
became a local richman very shortly.
They attracted more immigrants by
their aggressively cultivation.
Contribution
In
order to eliminate the conflict between
Taiwanese and Hakkaese, Ta-ching Chang
encouraged Hakka people to cultivate
in Shihgang and Soil Cow area. Based
on the early development in Fengyuan
area, the development of Shihgang
could be promoted. Because the contribution
of Ta-ching Chang to Taichung basin
were really big. Many of his desendents
stayed in Taiwan. Among them, the
first wife lived in the golden star
side of Shihgang, Wengzi neighborhood
and Wengse neighborhood.
