Ponkon
orange is the fruit occupying most productivity
of this township. The produced ponkon orange
is very juicy and sweet and excellent flavor.
The pellet of ponkon orange is the biggest
on of all oranges, just acidity and sweeteness
of fruit flesh and most juicy one. Accodring
to research, the earliest ponkon orange
in Taiwan was transplanted from southern
China to Hsinpu of Hsinchu County in 1796.
Since the shoulder of fruit stalk is inflate
of this type of orange that is different
from other types of orange, so it is called
¡§Ponkon Orange¡¨ by the pronounce of Taiwanese.
Its production period is from November to
March of next year and abounds in December
to February of next year. It mainly scatters
on Golden Star and Long Xian two villiage
with floor space around 250 hectares, which
is the largest amount of products in this
township. The fruit skin of produced ponkon
orange appears heavy orange color, which
is easy to be peeled since there is space
between skin and flesh. There are 8 to 10
saccate fruits easily for peeling and the
fruit flesh is soft, light sour and very
swet with excellent flavor. We specifically
pick the good looking appearance of them
and name it ¡§golden ponkon orange¡¨ highly
valued by the market.
